All class registrations are the first day of class. Please arrive 1/2 hour early to register.

 

Building Confidence and Self-esteem in Difficult Times

Build hope, confidence and self-esteem. Difficult times are part of the human experience; these experiences influence our outlook on life and how we view ourselves. Learn how to turn negative messages into positive with techniques and skills that you can use to build your confidence and self-esteem. Course runs for 7 weeks.

 

Wellness and Recovery Writing Workshop

Unleash your literary muse. Learn about creative techniques that can enhance your wellness recovery through the writing process. Each class focuses on one or two forms of writing and provides ongoing support through classroom activities and instruction. Students are encouraged to write their recovery story as a finial assignment. Course runs for 6 weeks.

 

Wellness Recovery Action Planning (W.R.A.P.)

Create a personal plan to become and stay well! WRAP will help you discover the things you need to do every day to keep well, external events that may make you feel badly, and signs that things may be getting worse. With this knowledge, you design skills and tools to forward your recovery. A WRAP can be used by anyone for any life issue; mental health, substance use, weight control, most anything. Course runs for 9 weeks.

 

Pathways to Recovery

Learn about a “Strengths Approach to Recovery”. Pathways to Recovery will help you plan and achieve personal goals, attain a higher quality of life and succeed in roles you want to be successful in. This course offers methods of reclaiming or enhancing a more fulfilling lifestyle by building on personal strengths, skills and abilities. Course runs for 9 weeks.

 

Stand up Speak Out

Advocate for yourself and others. Stand Up Speak Out provides a foundation for personal and community advocacy. Learn about communication skills, self-advocacy, the public mental health system, serving on boards of directors, and how to address legislators. Students will have the opportunity to

 

Skills of Self Management

Lead a better life. Skills of Self-management embrace the concepts of creating a healthier lifestyle. Learn about emotions, stress reduction, fitness, nutrition, problem solving, basic goal setting techniques, and other important life skills. Course runs for 7 weeks.

 

Find Peace by Eliminating Self Stigma

Learn how to take steps to eliminate the stigma we place on ourselves. Find Peace by Eliminating Self-stigma will explore how negative self-talk has prevented us from reaching our dreams and steps we can take to replace the negative with the positive. Course runs for 5 weeks.

 

How to Be a Hero

Learn how to recognize your untapped potential to be somebody’s hero. Looking at the great men and women who have dealt with issues of mental health and what made them heroes; we will explore their qualities and discover how to recognize that we have similar untapped qualities. Course runs for 2 weeks.

 

Personal Action Toward Health (PATH)

Improve your health and feel better! Developed by the Stanford School of Medicine, the PATH workshop provides information and skills for people with chronic health conditions. Small group discussions and easy-to-understand course materials explain ways to reduce pain and stress, cope with fatigue, use medications wisely, and benefit from exercise. Participants are encouraged to practice skills by making weekly action plans and achieving goals. Course runs for 6 weeks.

 

Collage Voice

Express your recovery! Collage Voice will explore different aspects of recovery through the power of pictures. Each student will create up to 3 magazine collages and artist statements depicting what recovery means to them. Students will have the opportunity to display their art pieces throughout the Academy. This is a fun introspective class for anyone who loves hands on experience. Course runs for 4 weeks.

 

 

The Recovery Academy offers support groups, led by persons in recovery and open to persons in recovery.

 

Peer Support Art Study Group

This ongoing group offers a fun way to explore ways of self- expression through art while enjoying the companionship of fellow artists. Participants work on their own art projects while giving and receiving helpful tips. Participants must bring their own art supplies (no oils, please.) Group meets every Monday 12:30-2:30.

 

Wellness Support Group

Share your experiences. This support group will explore topics that are of interest to our lives. The group chooses a topic, followed by discussion. This is a self-directed group and can serve as a personal support group, and a forum to discuss issues and promote knowledge. Group meets every Wednesday 10:30-12:00. This group meets on Wednesdays from 2:15 to 3:30. (Ongoing)
